Fall 2025 will mark Amour's 15th year of teaching high school science. She has taught biology, physical science, ecology, and AP Environmental science. AP Environmental Science has taken her down an agricultural path, participating in professional development programs including Nourish the Future, On the Farm STEM, and the Climate Hub Partnership Project. Amour continues to seek out any professional development that will enhance her content knowledge and increase field experience.
Amour's project about the use of prescribed burns is written in the 5E model presented by BSCS. With the 5E structure, it would be easy for another teacher to use just part/s of the lesson of their choosing depending on time. Amour used the OSU Extension for many of the resources in the lesson, depending on location you may be able to gather similar local resources if location is important for you. Overall, the lesson is meant to work students through the idea that fire can be a good land management tool and fire isn't always the enemy.
