The Living with Texas Fire videos showcase aspects of prescribed burning and wildfire mitigation targeted toward empowering and encouraging Texas landowners to become fire-ready. The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service developed educational materials that empower landowners with safe prescribed burn practices. The materials also help to strengthen the Prescribed Burn Associations and Burn Schools knowledge-base of prescribed burning in Texas.

“The Tallgrass Legacy Alliance began in 1999 when Kansas Partners for Fish and Wildlife biologists began to "think big, think ecosystems." This came at a time when the Kansas Partners Program was just finishing a needs assessment of the state's various habitats, done primarily through The Nature Conservancy and Kansas Biological Survey. The assessment showed clearly that all of the resource issues and environmental needs facing Kansas, one stood boldly forward--the TALLGRASS PRAIRIE. Only 4% of North America's pre-settlement tallgrass prairie survives to this day, and 80% is located in Kansas.”

“The development of the Flint Hills Smoke Management Plan is an attempt to balance the need for prescribed fire in the Flint Hills with the need for clean air in downwind communities. The plan does not include any provisions that restrict the burning of grasslands in the Flint Hills.
Instead, the plan takes a voluntary approach toward improving air quality during the burn season. The plan's voluntary approach leaves flexibility in the hands of the land manager but also puts the responsibility on him or her to make wise decisions.
The plan and website are cooperative efforts of countless persons with many perspectives on Flint Hills burning. We encourage land managers to use the site and to provide us feedback on organization, content, ease of use, and ways in which the site can be improved for the next burn season”

Nebraska Extension provides know-how and expertise to the community in the areas of beef, crops, water, food, youth, the environment, and the economy.
Beginning in 1981 with five observing locations, the statewide weather monitoring network has now grown to 68 stations in 49 Nebraska counties. The mesonet was initially designed with the agricultural community in mind but is now broadened in scope to serve as an environmental monitoring program.
The Nebraska Prescribed Fire Council (NPFC) was formed by landowners for the purpose of promoting the common good and general welfare of the people in Nebraska by educating, training, and practicing safe prescribed burn techniques that reduce or eliminate invasive species and fuel load build-up in open spaces, providing fire protection, and/or prevention from wild or unexpected fires in and near these burned open places. The NPFC will also provide landowners and prescribed burn associations access to organizational technical assistance and advocacy.
