Bio

Jayne Jonas teaches a variety of undergraduate and graduate courses, including general biology, biostatistics, and rangeland management, at the University of Nebraska at Kearney. From 2010 to 2021, she was in the Department of Forest and Rangeland Stewardship at Colorado State University (Fort Collins, CO) where she taught online and on-campus courses in rangeland science and natural resources management in addition to conducting research as a member of the Restoration Ecology Lab. Her research interests lie at the intersection of grassland and restoration ecology, particularly with regard to understanding practices for successful seed-based grassland restoration, plant-insect interactions, and contributions of conservation grassland networks to ecosystem goods and services.

Project Description

A module on fire-grazing and fire-grazing-browsing synergisms was created as part of a graduate-level online Grassland Fire Ecology & Management course. The course was designed for students with little or no prior background in either fire or grassland ecology, though some background was learned in earlier modules within the course. The module was designed to be completed within one week of an eight-week course. Student learning outcomes were assessed using formative assessments (a repeatable quiz and finding/assessing relevant peer-reviewed literature).
